Podcast: You Should Do That – A Journey to Living a Better Life and Building a Better Business

Hello, my friend, and welcome to The Better Life Better Business Podcast. I’m your host, Shawn Ellis, and I’m so glad you’re here.

In this first episode after a seven-year hiatus, I have an important message for you: “You should do that!”

This title not only represents the theme of this episode but also embodies my journey of self-discovery and the decision to bring back this podcast. So, join me as we explore the idea of following your passions, embracing change, and living a more fulfilling life.

The Journey Begins

Back in July 2011, I started this podcast under the title “This Moment Matters.” Little did I know it would become an integral part of my 20-year business journey. The timing wasn’t always right, and there were numerous reasons that prevented me from relaunching the podcast. However, after listening to Rob Bell’s podcast and feeling inspired, I thought to myself, “You should do that.” And here we are, taking that important first step together.

Embracing Imperfections

As we embark on a new journey, it’s essential to acknowledge that it won’t be perfect. In this episode, for instance, there’s no lead-in music or fancy production, and that’s okay. Sometimes, it’s better to start imperfectly than not start at all. If you find value in this episode, then I hope it will inspire you to take the next imperfectly perfect step on your journey.

Navigating Change and Cultivating Resilience

Over the years, I’ve developed a passion for helping others navigate change and cultivate resilience. The true aim of my presentations and coaching programs, though, is to guide individuals towards living authentically, finding joy, peace, and meaning in their lives. It’s important to note, however, that I don’t speak from a place of having all the answers. I share my experiences only because I’ve journeyed through personal challenges and learned valuable lessons along the way.

Making Peace with the Unexpected

Life rarely goes according to plan. We set goals, dream big dreams, and make our plans, only to be met with unexpected circumstances and detours. It’s a universal truth that many of us can relate to. I, too, have experienced dreams that didn’t materialize and goals that had to be readjusted. However, I firmly believe that we have the power to rise above these challenges and create the life we truly desire.

The Five Cs: Calm, Clarity, Courage, Confidence, and Community

Over the last 15 years, examining my own journey and studying the comeback stories of others, I’ve identified five essential elements for going beyond resilience and thriving amidst change. These five Cs – Calm, Clarity, Courage, Confidence, and Community – provide a roadmap for embracing life’s uncertainties and finding true fulfillment. By incorporating these elements into our lives, we can shift from surviving to thriving, from feeling lost to living authentically.

Following Your Calling

Ultimately, the path through the present challenges is to allow yourself to be pulled forward by your true calling. Living your calling goes beyond mere vocational aspirations. It’s about embracing a life of joy, peace, and meaning. Each of us has a unique calling, and it’s our responsibility to seek it out and embrace it. Building a successful business or career shouldn’t come at the expense of our true passions and desires. By aligning our work with our authentic selves, we can experience true fulfillment both personally and professionally.

Taking Baby Steps

Embarking on a new journey or pursuing a long-held dream doesn’t have to be overwhelming. It’s often the baby steps that lead to significant progress. Just like the decision to relaunch this podcast, taking a small step towards that thing that won’t let you go can unlock a world of possibilities. Whether it’s starting a new hobby, sending a heartfelt message, or simply taking time for yourself, every small action brings you closer to living a better life.

Embracing Connections and Unexpected Relationships

Sometimes, when we take chances and follow our instincts, we stumble upon unexpected connections and relationships. Just as I found love and partnership when I least expected it, you too may find meaningful connections when you embrace new experiences and opportunities.

Moving Forward

As we close this first episode and step into this new chapter together, I invite you to reflect on that “thing” that won’t let you go. What is calling out to you? What makes you feel alive? Remember, you should do that!

Embrace your passions, take small steps towards your dreams, and create a life that is true to you. By doing so, you not only live a better life but also build a better business or career that aligns with your authentic self.
