What If This Is As Good As It Gets? – Learning the Art of Contentment

Learning the Art of Contentment

“What if this is as good as it gets?” is not a question we typically ask ourselves, especially at this time of year. Going into a New Year, all the focus is on how everything can be better–and, understandably so.

This video is the first in a series titled “Rise and Thrive,” and as we go along, we will be talking about how things can be better. But first, we are here… and this moment is a part of your life and mine. Let’s not miss it!

As you’ll learn in the video, when we learn to bring more positivity into this moment, not only is it more enjoyable, but it actually puts us in a much better state to pursue our goals and plans for the future.

Plus, if we don’t know how to be happy now, what are the odds that we’ll miss the opportunity to be happy when we do achieve what we’re aiming for?

“He who is not contented with what he has, would not be contented with what he would like to have.”

Socrates

You see, if we’re not careful, our pursuit of “better” can be a trap. It’s a setup for making our happiness conditional: If this… then I’ll be happy.

But outcomes are never guaranteed, you know. A few years ago, I went into the New Year with focus, with a coach, with a plan, even with a guarantee–“If you do this, I guarantee you’ll hit your outcomes.”

That was all good… but there’s no way the plan or the guarantee could account for a family medical crisis that was just a few weeks away. My life was turned upside down, and I soon realized I picked the wrong F-word for the year. Focus only gets you so far… without its companion, flexibility.

I want you to hit all your goals for this year. I want you to keep all your resolutions. I want this to be your best year yet! And, I know from experience that the first step in making that happen is learning the Art of Contentment–which is far different from complacency, by the way.

What I want for you more than anything, is for you to be happy now, for you to feel good now… always. and that’s what this first video in the “Rise and Thrive” series is all about. In this 29-minute lesson, we’ll talk about:

  • Why is contentment so important?
  • What’s the difference between contentment and complacency?
  • How can I cultivate more contentment in my life?

Thanks for being here, and I hope this video serves you well. Love and light, grace and peace to you, my friend.
