What If the Key to Growth Isn’t What You Start… But What You Choose to End?

As a motivational keynote speaker and someone who’s spoken for clients from Anchorage to Orlando this year, I’ve seen a powerful pattern:

We all want to grow.
To become.
To rise to the next level—personally, professionally, organizationally.

But let’s be honest…

Most of us feel like the world is blocking us at every turn.

We want the next level, but we’re buried under to-do lists, team dynamics, fear, fatigue, and old habits that used to work… but don’t anymore.

And so I’ve been asking every audience this question—whether I’m serving as a resilience keynote speaker for a credit union in Alaska or guiding insurance leaders in Chicago through transformation:

What if the key to your next breakthrough isn’t what you start… but what you choose to end?

It’s a question I had to face myself. I still remember standing on the shore in California, after one of the hardest—and best—years of my life, when I looked up and saw a road sign that simply said “END.”

It was at that moment that something in me shifted.

While I knew what the sign meant, I also couldn’t miss the wide sandy beach and the endless Pacific Ocean waiting behind it. I couldn’t help but think, “It looks more like a beginning to me.”

I know, that sounds exactly like something a motivational speaker would say. Or a fortune cookie.

But I only said it because I knew the pain that had come before.
Because I’d already lived the ending.

And what came next… was everything.

The Most Powerful Message I’ve Shared in 15 Years

Over the past year, I’ve shared this message—“Choose Your Ending”—with audiences across industries—from healthcare to hospitality, insurance to tech, credit unions to franchise owners. It resonates every time.

Why?

Because I’m not here to tell anyone what to end.

I’m here to hold space for them to find their own answer.

When I step on stage—whether it’s as a conference keynote speaker or leading a workshop for a leadership team—I bring a coach’s mindset to the mic. My job isn’t to preach. It’s to shine a light on what might be holding someone back from becoming who they already know they could be.

Don’t Just Take It From Me…

After an event last week, here’s what some audience members shared as their most important takeaways:

  • “Making a brave choice!”
  • “Letting things go to help you move forward.”
  • “The end is not necessarily THE END.”
  • “Ending second guessing myself and starting to own my decisions.”
  • “The quote ‘Are you IN this moment or just trying to get through it?’ gave me a new perspective.”

That’s the power of a chosen ending.

Not one forced by circumstance.
Not one driven by burnout.
But one made with intention.

So Here’s Your Invitation:

Look at your week.
Look at your habits.
Look at your patterns.

Is there something you’ve outgrown?

Some version of yourself, your business, or your leadership that no longer serves you?

You don’t need to overhaul your whole life.
You don’t need to have it all figured out.

You just need to make one Brave Choice to let go of what no longer fits.

Because when you do, you create space for the clarity, energy, and momentum that’s been waiting to return.

Let go.
Level up.
Live true.
Lead what’s next.
